Responsible for maintenance, inventory, setup and function of the Operating Room equipment and special instrumentation. The Lead Surgical Technician is responsible for maintaining the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties, processing physician orders and requisitioning supplies, equipment and services from other departments. The Lead Surgical Technician is responsible for preparing the operating rooms for surgery and for performing central sterile skills using appropriate techniques. The Lead Surgical Technologist provides technical services, assists in operating room and provides care for the adolescent, adult and geriatric patient under the direction of the Registered Nurse According to the AST, the three basic principles of asepsis, as stated in the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology to be applied to all patients are: Principle I: A sterile field is created for each surgical procedure Principle II: Sterile team members must be appropriately attired prior to entering the sterile field Principle III. Schedules special requests for equipment, implants and instrumentation for all surgical areas. Coordinates with vendors and operating room clinical staff availability of needed supplies. Prepares supply requisitions and all reordering of implants for all surgical cases and reviews all supply requisitions received from the OR and Surgery Center. Provide material and educational training to staff regarding the use and support of this equipment within surgical services. Use of ANTT on nursing wards has shown to reduce contamination of intravenous medication.
